Browser Version Requirements

The YLN Catalog is supported on Internet Explorer 10+, Chrome 37+, Firefox 33+, and Safari 6+. On older browser versions, some features may not work. No iOS or Android browsers are supported. If the catalog is not displaying properly in Internet Explorer, you may need to turn off Compatiblity View for yln.info.

How to Access Free Digital Magazines through the Arizona State Library & Zinio

To access the digital magazines, you will go through a one-time set-up process in which you will be creating two accounts. Account #1 is to validate you as an active member of your library — and give you access to the library's digital magazine collection. This is the account you will use when choosing which magazines you want to read. Account #2 is your personal viewing account in Zinio which allows you to access the magazines you have subscribed to either in a browser on your home computer, or with an app on a mobile device (Android and Apple users can download a free Zinio app, but we recommend you complete this registration process first).

Tip: Use the same email address and password information for both accounts.

You will be able to check out as many magazines as you wish and keep them in your personal viewing account (Account #2) for as long as you wish.

  1. The first thing you must do is validate your library card and create an account with the AZ State Library. Go to https://www.rbdigital.com/arizonastateaz/zinio and click Create New Account at the upper right of the page. Note: You may want to check that your computer is compatible with the Zinio software.
  2. Enter your Yavapai Library Network card number. You should only have to do this once.
  3. Fill in the fields as required and click Create Account.
  4. Once your account has been created, you will automatically be signed in to your first account and able to browse and check out magazines. You can scroll through all the options, jump to the first letter or search by Keyword, Title or Genre.
  5. Click on a magazine to check it out. The first magazine you choose will prompt you to create your personal viewing account with Zinio (Account #2).
  6. A new window will open, and you will see the screen below (with an image of the magazine you selected).
  7. You will then be prompted to create the second account. Use the same email and password for this account. Click register after you have completed the form.
  8. Once logged in, you will see your reading list. To begin reading, click on the magazine cover. Or, you can access the magazine via the Zinio app on a mobile device.
  9. The magazine will open in a pop-up window. You can page through the magazine in various ways.

Searching the Catalog

  1. You can do a general search by entering a term in the search box, or use the dropdown menus to limit the search to a specific library, or by Author, Title, Subject, Series, or Reading Level. In this example, we are searching for a DVD of the play Cats. We start by doing an All Libraries/All Fields search of "Cats" (is not case-sensitive).
  2. Below are the search results for "Cats." Instead of going through 5978 items, use the facets on the right to Limit Search Results.
  3. Under Material Type, check the box for DVD Video and then click the Include button. Or, click on the term DVD Video.
    Note: Expand any of the facets to see more options by clicking More or Expand All.
  4. Below are the narrowed search results. Instead of 5000+ results, there are now 373. The display shows how many copies there are in the network, their availability, and the number of holds.
  5. Click Place Hold to request the DVD (if you are not logged in, you will be prompted to do so now) , Text Info To Me to receive a text with call number, or click on the title to see more information.
  6. Below is the detailed display of Cats. Use the dropdown menu, or click one of the buttons to place a hold or text the information to a smartphone.
  7. Note: If you were not already logged in, you will be prompted to do so when you click the Place Hold button.

Searching by Reading Level

There are two ways to search the YLN catalog for items with Accelerated Reader or Reading Counts levels.

  1. Select either AR or RC Level from the drop down menu.
  2. In the search box, enter a number in quotations. Unfortunately, it is not possible at this time to search for a range of levels.
  3. Below are the search results — 364 items have an AR level of 1.6.

The other way to search by reading level is to limit by the AR or RC Reading Level facets.

  1. Enter a term to search for a particular topic, or leave the search field blank and click the Search button to bring up everything in the catalog. In this example, the search term is "Cats."
  2. There are 5978 items in the catalog somehow related to the word "Cats."
  3. To limit by reading level, scroll down to view the AR limiter.
  4. To select a range, check the boxes for the various levels and then click the Include button.
  5. Now there are 185 items about Cats with an AR Reading Level range between "3" and "3.4."

Using Advanced Search

Use the Advanced Search option to pre-limit your search results by format, language or library.

  1. Click the Advanced Search link to the right of the default search field.
  2. On the Advanced Search page, search using keywords, exact phrases, or enter terms to be excluded from the results.
  3. After entering the search terms, scroll down and click the Advanced Search button to begin the search.

Placing Holds

  1. Log in to your account, or just begin searching.
  2. Once you have located an item to request, click Place Hold.
  3. If you aren't logged in, you will be prompted to do so now.
  4. Enter your library card barcode and PIN and click Log In.
  5. After you log in, the Place Hold(s) window will pop-up.
  6. Select your pickup library from the dropdown menu (you can set the default in the Preferences section of My Account).
  7. Click Place Hold(s).
  8. A window will appear to confirm the hold has been placed, or to inform you why, if the hold cannot be placed.
  9. Click Ok.

Canceling Holds

  1. Log in and click My Account.
  2. Click on the Holds tab.
  3. Select the items you want to cancel by checking the box next to the title.
  4. Click the Cancel Hold button.
  5. A confirmation window will pop up. Click Yes to cancel the hold.
  6. The item will disappear from your holds list.

Note: If you are not going to be available to collect your holds (ex. you are going on vacation), you can suspend them temporarily. When you are able to collect them again, you can cancel the suspension without losing your place in the queue.

Managing My Account

  1. Click on My Account.
  2. Enter your library barcode and PIN and click Log In.
  3. Once you are logged in, the screen will default to one of the tabs below (usually Personal Information).
  4. Under the Personal Information tab, you can click on the headings to expand and see more information, view your name and address information, change your PIN, or add a cell number to get text notices . If any information is incorrect, contact your local library.
  5. Under the Checkouts tab, you can view a list of the items you currently have checked out, their due dates, and you can renew them here.
  6. Under the Holds tab, you can view the items you have on hold, their pickup location, and your place in the holds queue. You can also edit your holds, pickup locations, and suspensions here.
  7. Under the Fines tab, you can view any outstanding fines, as well as your payment history.
  8. On the right hand side, you can see a summary of your account, including your status and the number of checkouts, holds, and any fines you may owe.

Viewing Checkout History

The catalog has the ability to keep track of your checkout history. You can activate this setting in your account by following the directions below.

  1. Click on My Account.
  2. Enter your library barcode and PIN and click Log In.
  3. Under the Personal Information tab, expand the Preferences heading by clicking on it.
  4. Click the boxes "Show my checkout history" and "Record my checkout history."
  5. Click the Update button to save the changes.

NOTE: Once you check the box, the system will only display your checkout history from that day forward. It will not track any information from before. To view the history, click on the Checkouts tab, and scroll down or collapse My Current Checkouts to view My Checkout History.

Renewing Items

Under the Checkouts tab in My Account (see Managing My Account), you can renew items.

  1. Click the checkboxes next to the titles you want to renew.
  2. Click Renew.

Note: If an item cannot be renewed (e.g. holds on the item, renewal limit reached), an error message in red will display.

Adding Items to My Lists

Note: If you had lists in the previous catalog, they will be imported the first time you log into the new catalog. If you go back to the old catalog and add to your lists there, the new titles will NOT transfer.

When you find items while searching that you want to organize, you can save them in My Lists. If you are logged in, the items will be saved in your default list (set in My Account). You can search and save items to a list without logging in first. The titles will be saved in a temporary list.

  1. Click the checkboxes next to the titles you want to save in a list.
  2. Click on Select an Action to display the dropdown menu.
  3. Click Add to My Lists.
  4. A window will appear confirming the titles were added to your list.

Saving Temporary Lists

After saving items to a Temporary List...

  1. Log in and click My Lists.
  2. Your temporary list will appear. Click on Select an Action to display the dropdown menu.
  3. Click Save Temporary List.
  4. A window will pop-up. Name your list and click Save.

Changing Your Default List

Note: If you had lists in the previous catalog, they will be imported the first time you log into the new catalog. If you go back to the old catalog and add to your lists there, the new titles will NOT transfer.

  1. Log in and click on My Account.
  2. Under the Personal Information tab, click on Preferences to expand the options.
  3. Choose your preferred list from the drop down menu (it defaults to the temporary list).

Managing Lists

Note: If you had lists in the previous catalog, they will be imported the first time you log into the new catalog. If you go back to the old catalog and add to your lists there, the new titles will NOT transfer.

  1. Log In and select My Lists (if you do not log in first, a temporary list will be created that can be saved later).
  2. The Temporary List is the default display. Click on a list name to view the contents. From here, you can place holds, or text the information. You can also use the Select an Action dropdown menu to email, copy, or delete the list, or move items from one list to another.
  3. You can add or delete lists by clicking on the icons.
