Library Journal Review

The goal of this instructional video is to prepare applicants for the oral interviews required to obtain positions in law enforcement agencies. Host Jacob Mueller, a former police officer, shares inside information on the processes that may be expected for positions such as police, sheriff, highway patrol, game warden, border patrol, and park ranger. Viewers are advised on the importance of researching the agency to which they are applying and coached on proper attire, grooming, and body language. Mueller dispenses tips on the interview itself and shares sample questions designed to elicit a candidate's problem-solving skills, ethics, honesty, reasoning traits, and biases. He covers everything from the color of socks for the interview outfit to how to answer scenario-based questions in a way that demonstrates smarts and the ability to think through a situation. Mueller is on camera delivering the advice; a human resources expert makes brief appearances to reinforce key points. VERDICT Mueller is knowledgeable and confident, if a little stiff. Applicants for jobs in law enforcement will find this hour packed with experience-based guidance to be time well spent.-Joan Pedzich, formerly with Harris, Beach, PLLC, Pittsford, NY (c) Copyright 2014.
