Reviews 1

Library Journal Review

A cell door opens, the accused is handcuffed and taken into the courtroom, and a trial begins. The exact nature of the crime and the part the accused played in it are slowly and tensely revealed through a series of flashbacks, finally culminating in a verdict. It's the classic crime procedural, but nothing about the ten episodes in this gritty British television series is predictable or expected. Instead, each of the stand-alone stories introduces a different set of characters, settings, and situations that lead to murder, arson, and rape, among other atrocities. Why an ordinary teacher, taxi driver, veteran, hair dresser, or plumber becomes involved in a deadly crime, either intentionally or accidentally, and how the lives of family and friends unravel as a result are the bases for each tightly constructed chapter in this anthology. Viewers will recognize and appreciate the work of several well-known British actors, including Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), but the true delight in this acclaimed series is the storytelling and surprise endings. VERDICT Not all who wander are lost, not all who are accused are convicted. Highly recommended for adult viewers.-Linda Frederiksen, Washington State Univ. -Vancouver Lib. © Copyright 2015.
