Description
The growing environmental impact associated with the use of non-renewable fossil fuels warrants the consideration of shifting towards alternative energy sources, which will lead to a greater degree of energy independence and thus self determination. The shift towards alternative energy would also mean that educational institutions would need to adopt curricula that focus on the study of the environment and energy systems created by a shift in workforce needs. This thesis will discuss the implementation and analysis of an alternative energy curriculum for Many Farms High School situated in Many Farms, Arizona, in the northeastern corner of Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation. In doing so, this examination will review current environmental concerns regarding energy while putting forth an argument in context to historical realities focusing on the Navajo Nation. The process will utilize a mixed method of analyzing educational practices implemented in the alternative energy curriculum for Many Farms High School.
