Description
This paper presents a literature review which explores the theoretical aspects of healing and recovery from childhood sexual abuse, and supports a group curriculum design which incorporates expressive arts modalities through a person centered approach. Individual differences in recovery from childhood sexual abuse are the result of a multitude of factors that define relationships, world views and ultimately one's sense of self. The complexity of long term adaptation to trauma is addressed throughout this review and factors for recovery are explored in detail. Attending also to the social, cultural and political context of childhood sexual abuse, this review supports a recovery model based on empowerment and creative expression, highlighting resiliency and an internal drive towards wholeness.
