Description
"This thesis explores the theoretical basis for the implementation of family workshops and retreats that utilize experiential learning as the primary instructional methodology. The author argues that because of the uniqueness of each family unit's needs and composition experiential learning methodologies can provide a retreat facilitator with tools that help empower each family member to become a knowledgeable and responsible participant involved in and committed to the growth and development process specific to his or her family unit. Family retreats thus designed can be catalysts for positive change and development well beyond the time frame of the initial facilitated experience. This thesis uses the research methodology analytical autoethnography to evaluate experiential learning initiatives developed and implemented with a family focus group. This thesis also addresses issues of the Outward Bound Process, family development, and adventure initiatives facilitation, thus providing a basis for further research of other family groups such as single parent, divorced families, and families of mixed racial backgrounds."--leaf 2.
