From the novel by Richard Russo.
In this affectionate story of small town life in upstate New York, Sully, a fitfully employed 60-year-old construction worker, is a cheerful curmudgeon who seems to have missed all his chances and made nothing of his life. However, it becomes apparent that Sully, despite his best efforts to be a n'er-do-well, is an important and beloved member of his family and his community. He is, as he says, somebody's father, somebody's grandfather, somebody's friend.
